Compline @ St. Timothy’s

Join us for a peaceful and contemplative Service of Compline as we celebrate the close of the choir season at St. Timothy’s Church. This ancient nighttime prayer will be sung by the combined choirs of St. Michael’s and St. Timothy’s, bringing together nearly sixty voices for an evening of serene choral music and quiet reflection. The service will feature an introit and Nunc Dimittis by Orlando Gibbons, along with Stephen Paulus’s beloved Pilgrim’s Hymn. The entire service will be sung a cappella and will be directed by Andy McBeath, Minister of Music at St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church. Compline is the final service of the Daily Office, offered as night falls. Rooted in ancient monastic practice, it is a service of quiet psalms, scripture, and music that asks for God’s protection as we lie down to rest. Recognizing sleep as a time of human vulnerability, Compline invites worshipers to entrust themselves in body, mind, and soul into God’s care through the night.Because night and sleep have long symbolized death, Compline also carries a gentle, hope-filled awareness of our mortality. In singing prayers such as the Nunc Dimittis, the Church rehearses letting go, releasing the day, and resting in the promise that whether we wake again or pass into eternal rest, we are held safely in God’s mercy.

This service is open to all and offers a beautiful and restful way to conclude both the day and our "Choir Season". Come and be still in prayer, music, and peace.
